Data and Measurement Reporting with JFYNet

A voice for the silent partner

The JFYNet Learning Specialist wears many hats. One hat is Statistician. Wearing that hat, we collect and analyze data from the math end ELA programs our students use. We also analyze MCAS data for each of our schools. Our analyses help teachers and administrators understand exactly how students are doing and how each year’s performance compares to past years’. We collect and analyze data on a monthly basis throughout the school year and then provide a full year report at the end.

We provide three main types of reports: monthly reports on students’ performance; yearly reports on students’ performance; and MCAS data analysis.

Monthly Reports

During the school year we compile monthly reports for teachers on student performance. We extract the raw data from the software program and then analyze and interpret it for the administration and teachers. As can be seen in this math example, we sometimes show data from previous months to highlight trends over time.

We give teachers the data that are most useful to them. We group the data by class so they can see how each student is performing, and how each class is performing. Teachers find this helpful because they can see their own classes and quickly identify how their students are doing.

End of Year Reports

At the end of the school year, we give each school a comprehensive yearly report. These reports cover student data from September to June and include every student enrolled in the JFYNet program. The reports include a summary and detailed schedules of data. The report formats for MCAS Readiness and College and Career Readiness are slightly different. Our College and Career Readiness program calculates college remedial tuition savings for students based on their Accuplacer scores.

College and Career Readiness Summary Report

With the College and Career Readiness data, we measure college entry test scores on the Accuplacer against local community college required scores for credit-level class placement. When a student scores above the college’s “cut” score, we calculate tuition savings from the remedial course thereby eliminated. JFYNet has saved students over $3,000,000 in college tuition.

MCAS Data Analysis

We combine school MCAS data with JFYNet data collected from our math and ELA software. One standard analysis uses the Time on Task data point to determine if amounts of time in the program correlate with performance on MCAS tests.

Learning Specialists at JFYNet have become adept at collecting data, interpreting and formatting it, and reporting it back to teachers and administrators. We can provide data in any form needed. We consider measurement an integral component of the education process. It is one of the cardinal points of our AIMS methodology: Assess, Instruct, Measure, Support.

Measurement is the silent partner of teaching and learning. Without data analysis we have no way of knowing if our teaching is producing any learning. Our student performance reporting gives that silent partner a voice.
