College Admission and Placement

The college admission process is changing. Each college sets its own standards, and they change frequently. Test scores from the SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer may be required or optional for acceptance or course placement, depending on the college’s policy. Colleges also evaluate other data points like GPA (Grade Point Average) and the rigor of courses taken, including honors, early college, and AP. Students and parents need to consult each college’s posted policies. It is highly advisable to check with each college’s admissions office by phone or in person, as posted policies often change.

College Class Placement - Accuplacer and Other Placement Tests

Once students are accepted, the college may require placement tests in English and math to determine course assignment. The Accuplacer is widely used for this purpose.
